Research interests: thoracic tumors, urologic tumors including germ cell tumors, immunotherapy and predictive biomarkers, machine-learning, anticancer oral therapy (AOT) and adherence to AOT.
Dr. Banna obtained his Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Catania in 1998. He was a trainee at University of Catania and University of Padua, Italy, from 1998 to 1999 and gained Qualification to the professional practice at University of Catania. Then he got the Oncology training from 1999 to 2022 at University of Padua, Italy. During the oncology training he was visiting researcher at MD Anderson Cancer in 1999. In 2017 he gained the Italian Scientific Qualification for Associate Professor of Oncology.
Dr. Banna currently serves as Consultant Medical Oncologist of the Department of Oncology and Educational Supervisor at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust in the United Kingdom, Scientific Consultant of Clinical Pharmacology and Oncology for the Italian Medicines Agency. In the last three years, he worked as the lead of clinical and translational research for thoracic tumors at Candiolo Cancer Institute, FPO-IRCCS, Turin, Italy, clinician scientist and consultant for lung and urology tumours at the Lincolnshire United Hospitals, the University of Lincoln and Nottingham, and Portsmouth University NHS Hospitals Trust in the UK. He is the coordinator of the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM) clinical guidelines for testicular cancer.
Dr. Banna has published 169 research articles that have been indexed by Scopus, with an H-index of 28. He has conducted 8 clinical trials followed as Co-investigator and more than 20 clinical trials as a Principal Investigator according to the requirements of GCP protocols. Dr. Banna has received several research grants since 2011.
